Gulab Jamun is a very popular Indian dessert that is made of milk solids called Khoya & fresh cheese called chenna. Indeed it is a favorite Indian sweet for many of us. At parties, weddings, and even in an Indian dinner meal, gulab jamun happens to be one of the sweets served after the meals. The word “gulab jamun” means rose berries. In the Hindi language, the word “Gulab” means rose and “Jamun” is a darkish purple berry (java plum, black plum) available in India. The sugar syrup for gulab jamun is flavored with rose water and the fried dough balls have a size similar to Jamun berries – hence the term Gulab Jamun. You can serve it hot with the syrup or serve it cold without the syrup. These soft sugar syrup-soaked balls are a treat always. It is made traditionally with dried milk solids. These dried milk solids are also called khoya or mawa in Hindi. The traditional way of making Gulab Jamun is tedious and long. If you have had the Gulab Jamun and now you are missing it at home, you can buy from us these delicious homemade sweets.
